ACTION ALERT: May 16th Tell House to Vote NO on Amendment 38 to Ban Official Time
Once again, politicians are trying to beat up on federal employees and their unions by eliminating official time for union representatives. This time is used to represent employees in grievance proceedings, unfair labor practices, and discrimination investigations. Without it, many will suffer. We urge all federal workers to call Congress (on your own time, using your own phone) and tell them to VOTE NO ON AMENDMENT 38 to the National Defense Authorization Act.

Five Percent Increase in Employee Pension Contributions Passes House
Thursday, a bill containing a five percent increase in federal worker pension contributions passed the House of Representatives, bringing with it considerable risk for already cash-strapped federal families. Introduced by Republican Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act seeks to increase current federal workers’ retirement contributions for FERS employees from 0.8% to 5.8%, and from 7% to 12% for those enrolled in CSRS. In short, if this bill becomes law, it will effectively cut your take-home pay by 5%, without receiving a dime in return.

President Dougan Blasts “Unconscionable” House Oversight Committee Proposal Increasing Employee Pension Contributions Six-Fold
“These retirement cuts are absolutely unconscionable. At a time when many federal workers and their families are struggling through the great recession, some in Congress are proposing to increase six-fold the amount they pay toward their retirement. Burdened with two years of frozen pay, increased pension contributions for new hires, and crushing cuts to agency budgets, federal employees are reaching the end of their rope. We understand that sacrifices will have to be made to keep our nation’s fiscal house in order, but these must be shared sacrifices – not cut, after cut being heaped on a small minority of Americans."

National President Dougan Blasts Mitt Romney’s ‘Bureaucrats Look for Places to Interfere’ Comment
“Governor Romney’s recent comments regarding federal workers are very concerning. To hear someone who may soon become the President of the United States express such a profound misunderstanding of the critical role federal workers play in our nation’s well-being is deeply disturbing. The characterization of federal workers sitting idly in Washington looking for people to bother is deeply offensive and completely out of touch with reality. Federal employees are tasked with maintaining our national defense, caring for our veterans, inspecting our food and medicine, keeping our border safe, and hundreds of other critical missions. These are not bureaucrats riding desks in Washington, these are our neighbors who answered the call of national service.

National President Dougan on House Republicans' Fiscal Year 2013 Budget: “Get Your Priorities Straight”
“Rather than laying out a ‘Path to Prosperity,’ the Ryan Budget sets our nation’s federal workforce on a path to destitution. The budget resolution plays like a greatest hits album of anti-federal worker political attacks, calling for 200,000 jobs to be eliminated, salaries frozen for an additional three years, and the hollowing out of federal pensions. In total, these cuts will rob $368 billion from the pockets of middle class federal employees over the next decade. Congressman Ryan calls this a path to prosperity? Give me a break. The fact is that federal employees have already contributed $75 billion to ease our nation’s budget woes over the next decade.
