NFFE Forest Service Council Holds Training for Local Officers, Stewards in Wisconsin
Twenty-seven NFFE Forest Service Council (FSC) officers and stewards met in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, April 10-12 for basic training in labor relations. A blend of new stewards and officers, in addition to a few, let’s say “seasoned” veterans, provided a great mix of energy and experience. Attendees came from Regions 3, 6, 9, and 10. Trainers Machelle Lang Melissa Baumann, and John Obst kept the attendees on their toes with intensive lectures and exercises.

National President Dougan Talks Federal Jobs, Pay with News Channel 8’s Capital Insider
Wednesday, NFFE National President William R. Dougan joined Washington, D.C. News Channel 8’s Morris Jones to discuss House Republican Budget Chairman Paul Ryan’s FY 2013 budget proposal. As NFFE reported last week, the Ryan budget proposes $368 billion in federal workforce cuts by freezing pay another three years, cutting 200,000 jobs, and increasing the amount employees contribute toward their pensions. “Rather than laying out a ‘Path to Prosperity,’ the Ryan Budget sets our nation’s federal workforce on a path to destitution. The budget resolution plays like a greatest hits album of anti-federal worker political attacks, calling for 200,000 jobs to be eliminated, salaries frozen for an additional three years, and the hollowing out of federal pensions. In total, these cuts will rob $368 billion from the pockets of middle class federal employees over the next decade. Congressman Ryan calls this a path to prosperity? Give me a break. The fact is that federal employees have already contributed $75 billion to ease our nation’s budget woes over the next decade.

NFFE to Congress: Don't Sell Out New Federal Hires on Retirement Benefits
"NFFE is adamantly opposed to placing any additional costs on federal employees, who have already sacrificed billions to address our nation’s budget deficit. Under the current two-year pay freeze, federal employees and their families are making the hard choices they need to to help their country heal from the great recession. They have endured the freeze and done their jobs without complaint, because they believed that their sacrifice could make a difference. Today, we are not so sure that those on Capitol Hill understand the magnitude of that sacrifice. Now Congress is coming after the next generation of federal employees by asking them to pay a permanent price to solve a temporary problem."
