Washington, DC – Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives accepted an amendment to the FY07 Defense Appropriations Bill (HR 5631) to defund sections of the National Security Personnel System (NSPS) recently deemed illegal by Judge Emmett G. Sullivan in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.  The amendment was accepted by a voice vote.  The House then passed the Defense spending bill (407-19).  The amendment was cosponsored by Jay Inslee (D-WA), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Walter Jones (R-NC).

"The courts already sent a clear message to DoD that they exceeded their authority with the NSPS regulations they developed, and now Congress has done the same," said Richard N. Brown, National President of the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE), which represents 45,000 DoD civilian employees.

"This is a great victory in the fight to maintain workers' rights in the federal government," said Brown
