Washington, DC — Defense workers are shocked by a comment made yesterday by Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England at a conference hosted by the Office of Personnel Management in which he referred to the Department of Defense (DoD) as a "vestige of communism" as reported by Government Executive (http://www.goveexec.com/).
"It is appalling that the Deputy Secretary of Defense would call his own agency a vestige of communism, particularly during a time of war," said Richard N. Brown, National President of the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE). "This is possibly the worst message you could send to all of the dedicated and patriotic Defense workers who devote their lives to serving this country."
"This comment could be very damaging to the morale of our DoD workforce," said Brown
