House Resolution Passed Honoring Public Servants
Friday, May 8, 2009(National Federation of Federal Employees)
With Public Service
Recognition Week in full swing, the House of
Representatives passed H.R.299, a resolution
honoring the contributions of millions of
public servants nationwide. The bill,
introduced by Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA),
recognizes the often thankless tasks carried
out by public employees every day.
“While Public Service
Week lasts only seven days… I believe that the
contributions and sacrifices of public servants
ought to be recognized and appreciated
throughout the entire year,” said Lynch.
“Hopefully, by honoring public servants and
acknowledging the value of their service, we
may show younger generations the importance of
public service and inspire them to consider a
career in Federal, State, or local
government.”
Rep. Lynch is the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Federal Workforce, Postal Service, and the District of Columbia. Reps. Danny Davis (D-IL), Edolphus Towns (D-NY) Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), James Moran (D-VA), Gerald Connolly (D-VA), Elijah Cummings (D-MD), and Donna Edwards (D-MD) also signed-on to the resolution.
