NFFE-IAM Member Receives DOI Valor Award

Washington, DC – Yesterday at the Department of the Interior 61st Honor Awards Convocation, Blane Dolges of NFFE FD 1 Local 2062, National Park Service, received the DOI Valor Award, presented to a DOI employee who has demonstrated unusual courage involving a high degree of personal risk in the face of danger.
Dolges was honored for his bravery in apprehending a knife-wielding young man attempting to commit suicide. After overpowering the young man, Dolges assisted him until medical help could arrive, saving his life.
Presenting the awards at the convocation was P. Lynn Scarlet, Assistant Secretary, Policy, Management and Budget. The Honorable Gale A. Norton, Secretary of the Interior, was also in attendance and gave congratulatory remarks to all the award recipients. Approximately 1,500 people attended the awards ceremony.
There to support Dolges in receipt of his award were: Rich Plecha, President of NFFE Local 2062; Randy Erwin, Executive Assistant/Communications Coordinator; and Richard Brown, President/DBR. “We are real proud of Blane,” explained Brown. “It is great to see federal employees finally get recognition for all they do to serve and protect America.”
