Washington, DC—Today, Bill Dougan was named the new National Secretary/Treasurer of the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) after winning the overwhelming majority of votes cast by the NFFE membership.
Three candidates were nominated for the position, and NFFE locals held elections for National Secretary/Treasurer at the local level. The participating locals returned their results to the NFFE National Office via mail. A national election committee, named by NFFE National President Richard N. Brown and chaired by Jack Hanley, met today to tabulate the results. Dougan received 97%f the valid delegate votes cast.
Prior to taking office as NFFE National Secretary/Treasurer, Dougan was employed by the US Forest Service for 31 years. He also served as NFFE’s Forest Service Council President for 4 ½ years before stepping down to run for the National Secretary/Treasurer position.
Brother Dougan replaces John Paolino, who retired on April 30th . The current term runs through October of 2008, when the positions of NFFE National President and Secretary/Treasurer, as well as the National Vice Presidents, will be up for reelection at NFFE’s 48th National Convention.
“I would like to thank every NFFE local for their participation in this election,” said NFFE National President Richard N. Brown. “The high turnout and margin of victory speak highly of the membership’s confidence in Brother Dougan. I have no doubt that Brother Dougan is a fine choice for this position, and I look forward to continuing to work along side him to represent the interests of the members.”
