From the Desk of the President: Honoring the Fallen on Memorial Day
Wednesday, May 25, 2011(National Federation of Federal Employees)
May 30,
Memorial Day, is a day to honor those who have
died while serving in the military.
Following the Civil War, a nation
divided recognized and honored their dead;
Decoration Day honored the Union dead while the
Confederate Memorial Days honored fallen
Confederate soldiers. From these separate days
grew Memorial Day as a single day to honor all of our fallen
heroes.
Throughout our nation’s history, a
history founded upon conflict, the men and
women of our military have served with honor
and have not hesitated to answer the call to
serve our country. Many have paid the price of
defending our country and our way of life with
their lives.
NFFE
honors the memory of the thousands of men and
women who have died in service to our
nation.
We honor their spirit, selfless
dedication and devotion to honor, to mission
and to country. Despite all of the
differences our citizens have on the many
issues our nation faces, when it comes to
maintaining a strong and free nation, we are a
people united.
Please take a moment on Monday, May 30 to reflect on our fallen brothers and sisters in uniform, and offer a prayer for all of the brave men and women who continue to serve and defend our nation.
