National President William R. Dougan and
National Vice President Timothy Ostrowski met
with key leaders at a Congressional breakfast
last week to discuss a broad array of issues
impacting the nation.
Congressman Paul Tonko (D-NY) and
Congresswoman Betty Sutton (D-OH) were on hand
to listen to NFFE’s ideas for stimulating the
ailing economy, and what role federal workers
can play in this process. President Dougan
stressed job creation within the federal sector
as one of many remedies to help the economy get
back on its feet.
“The
greatest victim of this economic downturn has
been the American middle class,” said Dougan.
“Good-paying federal jobs are a great way to
put people back to work and start pulling
ourselves out of this
hole.”
Dougan
also expressed his willingness to work with
Congress to address other key issues such as
improving labor-management relations within the
federal workforce, securing paid parental leave
for federal employees, and finally delivering
the Employee Free Choice Act for America’s
workers.
“We are
committed to bringing the voice of every single
federal employee to the halls of Congress,”
said Dougan. “I would like to thank
Representatives Tonko and Sutton for all of
their work in fighting for federal employees
and the middle class.”
