Randy Erwin Appointed National Secretary-Treasurer of NFFEFriday, October 2, 2015
(National Federation of Federal Employees)
Following a retirement announcement
Secretary-Treasurer (S/T) Bill Fenaughty in
early 2015, NFFE National President
William R. Dougan began to seek a qualified
candidate to fill out the remainder
of S/T Fenaughty’s four-year term. After
soliciting counsel from varied NFFE
leaders, including Locals, Councils and the
National Executive Council (NEC),
President Dougan was presented with a handful
of highly-qualified NFFE-IAM
members that were ready to answer the call to
service for their Union. And
yesterday, following approval from the NEC,
President Dougan appointed NFFE
Executive Director Randy Erwin to become the
next National Secretary-Treasurer
for the National Federation of Federal
"As Bill Fenaughty completes his last day as NFFE National Secretary-Treasurer, I would like to thank him for his many years of service and leadership to our Union," said Dougan. "He has left his mark by always putting our members first. I wish him all the best in his retirement. And I am very pleased that Randy Erwin will be succeeding Bill as our next National Secretary-Treasurer. His demonstrated technical knowledge of our financial systems is important, but equally important are the new ideas, creativity and enthusiasm he will bring to his new position. I am extremely proud that Randy continues the transition to a new generation of labor leaders within NFFE."
For most NFFE-IAM members, Erwin is a well-known figure in the organization and has dedicated more than 14 years of his career to advancing the interests of federal employees at the local and national level. Erwin began his career with NFFE in 2001, serving as an assistant to NFFE National President Richard Brown for three years before becoming NFFE’s legislative director in 2005. In 2007, Erwin was elected President of NFFE Local 2, and served in that role until February of 2015, shortly after his appointment as NFFE Executive Director in 2014.
During his tenure with NFFE, Erwin has been a tireless advocate for federal workers on Capitol Hill and with the Administration. He played a key role in halting the rampant outsourcing of federal jobs, repealing the anti-worker National Security Personnel System at the Department of Defense, and protecting federal workers from countless attacks in Congress. In addition to his responsibilities at NFFE and with NFFE Local 2, he serves on the executive board of Northern Virginia Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO.
"I am truly honored and blessed to be asked to serve my Union in this capacity," said Erwin. "I appreciate all the support that those in the NFFE family have shown me. I cannot wait to get started doing all I can to fight for our members and grow this Union in this new role. I thank President Dougan for recommending me for the position, and thank the NEC for accepting his recommendation."
